So as you all know I got my first Shellac done recently (no longer a Shellac virgin) and instead of taking the trip back to the salon and paying extra for it to be removed I thought I would share my tips on how to do it at home!
What you will need:- Pure acetone - you can get this in Sally Salon Services or Terri Sales
- Cotton pads
- Nail file
- Orange stick or cuticle pusher
- Tin foil
- Nail conditioner/strengthener
How to do it:
- Begin by filing on the top of your nail to wear down the first layer of Shellac so the acetone can penetrate underneath
- Soak a cotton pad in acetone and wrap it around your nail
- Then wrap the cotton pad in tin foil
- Wait 5-10 minutes the longer the better but you don't want to damage your nails so go for 7.30 minutes a happy medium!
- Remove the cotton pad/tin foil and the Shellac should look like it is peeling away to a powder
- Starting at the cuticle use your orange stick to scrape down the nail and peel off all of the Shellac
- It should come off easy enough and if not then try giving them a rub with acetone again
- Once all of the polish is off sweep over the nail with the acetone left on the cotton pads
- Give your hands a wash
- Apply your favourite nourishing top coat and your good to go!
Let me know how you get on and if this works for you!
Love,
S
