Come Back Sun I'm Not Done With You Yet

Hey Ladies,

What a scorcher of a week we were having and of course today when I decide to put up a post to do with Summery nails, it rains. Karma. But sure look we will carry on and pray the sun will return once again.

I love switching up my nail polish and in Summer time I almost change my polish every day or two religiously. We have such long winter months of dark dreary nail colours so whilst the sun is shining (or trying to) I like to get in as much colour as possible.

My nail polish of choice this week is Pepperminty by Ciaté which has made a few appearances so far this Summer. Its a gorgeous teal blue colour akin to that of a Tiffany's & Co box (oo-er fancy). Two coats will give you an even finish and expect at least 3-5 days of wear before it starts to chip.

I got this and the some of the other Ciaté polishes featured on the blog in the Ciaté advent calendar last Christmas and to think that I am still getting use out of it now is phenomenal. Dare I say it that I can't wait till this Christmas (I know, I know its way too early to be dropping the C-Bomb) to pick up this years edition.

What polishes are you donning this Summer? Any favorite brands?

Let's Be Honest...

Hey Ladies,

So I was in work the other day and a customer came in with a foundation that hasn't been produced for YONKS (throwback to the 2000's) and I thought to myself that something I've never touched on is the subject on binning your beauty bits. With an extensive collection of makeup ranging from cheaper items right up to super splurges, throwing things away is not one of my strong suits. I'll list below the expiration guide for makeup products just so you can mentally add up how long you've had your favourite beauty essentials.

I do try and switch out my foundations and concealers as often as possible as with acne prone skin, items like that can wreak havoc in the long run. If something didn't suit me or just wasn't holding my interest anymore, I would pass it on to a friend or family member but the likes of my MAC palettes that I have been slowly collecting over the past 5 years, I couldn't part with for the world. They are most definitely over the 2 year expiry date but they still have great color payoff and look brand new. I won't be getting rid of them anytime soon!

So confess, do you keep dusty lipsticks and unused foundations or do you bin 'em?
Love,
S

Let Me Just Clarify!

Hey Ladies,
Just a quick post for you today to let off some steam.

The Facebook Fishermen just fishing for likes!*

I'm sure in the past year or two you may have noticed an increase in bloggers posting on Facebook as a way to generate readers. Usually with a link to their blog and a photograph of their subject matter. But I just want to separate the bloggers from what I call the Fishermen. The Fishermen are people who take photographs from popular websites such as Tumblr, Instagram and WeHeartIt to then copy onto their own pages such as Facebook or Instagram. That picture is then "liked" a thousand odd times and generates tonnes of comments such as "love this makeup, what lipstick is that?" or "love that dress where is it from?" as the person usually doesn't distinguish whether this is their own photograph or not. Countless times I've had to inform people such as friends that this is not the person who runs the page, as they think the person running the page has a bigger collection of designer bags than Brown Thomas!

I know I blog but I do it as a hobby so I haven't a massive following so I'm sure some people may read this post and think YOUR JUST JEALOUS, when really I am more frustrated at the fact that a Fisherman has thousand of people following them for the ideal of their lifestyle rather than the content of their page. Don't get me wrong I love a picture of a gorgeous makeup look or a vanity area but there is so much more to it. I want to see how that makeup look was created and what were the products used. Why can't they simply give credit to the person who owns that photograph and make it clear it is not their own?  I am not pointing to any pages in particular I am just speaking generally. Nine times out of ten, that person will have their own blog and as a result the people who have liked their pictures will then read their blog.

There is a difference when people use their Facebook or Instagram page to make their own pictorials or post makeup looks they've done themselves as it is their work, but don't be fooled when someone steals their picture to fish for likes!

I know some people may enjoy the Fishermen pages and that's all well and good but if you want to invest your precious time into reading blogs please follow real bloggers who put their hard work and effort into creating great posts and pictures that the Fishermen reap the rewards for.

This is just my opinion if you don't like it that is totally fine but for me I really just wanted to get it off my chest!
Love,
S

*I know the word "Fisherman" seems like I am targeting a male but the word is correct for both males and females (I checked!)

Nuts About Nylon!

Hey!

It may be mid April but the sun is finally out and I thought it would be the perfect time to showcase the perfect Spring/Summer bold lip! It's about time we ditch the dark plums, reds and burgundies and start preparing ourselves for pinks, corals and nudes. Ah Summer is coming!

I love wearing this with a very fresh faced makeup look!
(Picture without flash so you can see the true colour payoff!)
If you already follow my blog you will recognise the name OCC from a post I did last year featuring their most talked about product Lip Tar. If you missed that post you can read it here, but today I have a new shade for you!

I picked up Nylon in New York back in February (Haul video to follow!) and it is a colour completely out of my comfort zone being so pale I thought a bright neon pink would be a bit much but surprisingly I just can't get enough. But let me tell you a little bit more about the product itself, this isn't your regular lip product, it is more of a liquid lipstick. The pigmentation is so strong that you only need a tiny amount to get a vibrant colour pay off. It is also minty who doesn't want that?! For $18 you get loads of product and a colour that is so unique. Nylon and Trollop are only two shades I've tried but you can check out all the shades available on the Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics website here!

I have a feeling this will be a Summer staple product!

Love,
S
