Suzie Q Reviews: PS Love This.. Make Up Fixing Spray

Hey Ladies,

If you have been following me on Snapchat I have been sharing new products as I get them, demos and first impressions. But I am saving the full review for the blog so you will hear it here first! Last month I picked up this setting spray in Penneys on a whim, it caught my eye on a shelf and I had just run out of my beloved MUFE Mist and Fix (review here). Costing a mere €2.50 sure why not give it a bash, I couldn't pass up a deal that good.

So I have been trying it out for the past month and I have to say I really like it, the market is flooding with setting sprays at the moment as they become the new "it" beauty product and of course Penneys was on the ball. The idea behind this spray is to prolong your makeup by fixing it into place. It comes in an aerosol can which to be honest isn't the most attractive packaging and the spray nozzle is a bit crap because it doesn't spray evenly so you will need a few sprays to cover your whole face.

The texture of the product is a bit strange and hard to explain, when you spray it onto your face it comes out like a spray but feels like you have sprayed foam or bubbles on your skin. It only takes a second or two to dry and you're good to go. One piece of advice is try not spray this onto your lips as you will taste it throughout the day and it isn't the most pleasant taste, so try avoid that.

Does it work? Yes, I have tried it out with many different variations of foundations, concealers, powders and primers and regardless of what's on my face it lasts quite well through the day. In comparison to the likes of MAC, NYX or Makeup Forever the packaging and texture are complete polar opposites but you are basically getting the same product for a fraction of the price. If you are passing your local Penneys I would pick one up just to have handy for the likes of a night out!

Have you tried this product or something similar? Would you bother with a setting spray or just stick to a primer?

MAC "Fix + Mist" =VS= MUFE "Fix+"

Hey Ladies,
A very important part of being a freelance makeup artist is always being prepared for anything. Regularly my clients get their makeup done for an important event such as a debs, wedding or 21st early in the day which means they need their makeup to last all night. To achieve long lasting makeup I like to use primers and setting sprays which really prolongs the life of a makeup.

I often get asked by clients which is better Make Up For Ever "Mist and Fix" or MAC "Fix+" which is a very difficult question as these products are supposed to do the same thing but I find that they are quite different in their own way. I thought I would do a quick post on this to give my opinion on how well they work and if they are worth the money if you are interested in buying them for your makeup kit.

Let's take it one at a time...

MUFE "Mist and Fix"
This is my go to spray for clients who need their makeup to last all day and don't want to touch up throughout the night. It is colourless and odorless so it will not affect the makeup and you can apply products on top once it has been applied. I use maximum three sprays for the face to keep everything in perfect place. I also find that if you feel you have over powdered that this spray takes away the powdery look and leaves the skin looking natural. The cost of this product is around €20 so it is very inexpensive and invaluable if you are a makeup artist, it also lasts such a long time as you only need a small amount.

MAC "Fix+"

This spray isn't as long lasting as the MUFE spray but it does a good job if you are only wearing makeup for a couple of hours and you don't want your makeup to budge. I like to use this spray on myself once I have been wearing my makeup for a couple of hours and I want to refresh my face. You can also use this spray on bare skin to increase hydration as it contains green tea, cucumber, chamomile, minerals and vitamins! It is perfect if you are going on a long haul flight if you want to look gorgeous getting off the plane and to prevent skin from drying out because of the cabin air conditioner. I wouldn't really class this as a setting spray but more of a skin perk'r'upper. It is also fantastic to remove the over powdered look also and at €20 it's no harm to have it around.

My choice? I can't choose as they are so different in their own way but I couldn't go without them in my kit.

Love,
S

MAC Haul

Hey Ladies,
Last week I made a trip into MAC in Brown Thomas to pick up some things that I wanted for my freelance kit. Recently, I have been putting together a list of products that I think I need to build a good start up kit for freelancing and I wanted to buy new products to get the ball in motion. I had vouchers for BT's so I thought I would pick up some things that have been on my list for the longest time!

Firstly I picked up the Pro Long-wear Concealer in NC15. This is the lightest shade that MAC carries, it a great creamy concealer that covers not only blemishes but the deepest of dart circles! Can be used not only as a concealer but also as a foundation as it is much lighter than the other NC15 products from MAC!
Cost: 17.50

Next up is the iconic Fix+! I already have the MUFE Setting Spray but I wanted to give this one a go instead to try something different. I also think this gives a great feeling and smell to the skin. My sister always says "why don't I get the same feeling when you do my makeup, when someone in MAC does it? I want the MAC feeling!". Well I think it is all down to the prep and after care and this gives that feeling and helps makeup stay on all day....happy client, happy me.
Cost: 16.50

This is a limited edition blush that comes along with the great customer service story. You may have noticed from the first picture this isn't in it's box, why? Because I got it for free. Last Monday I had a job interview and I was a bundle of nerves so I stopped into MAC on the way, I wanted the ombre blushes, which is Vintage Grape and Azalea Blossom. Much to my dismay Azalea blossom was sold out so I decided to settle for Vintage Grape, but the sales assistant just couldn't find it. I was heartbroken. I think the lovely woman (Tara was her name) must have noticed and said "do you want this one?" which I replied "No that it is okay" and she just said "take it, it's free." This truly made my day! This blush does have some damage but I'm certainly not going to argue as I thought that was incredibly kind!
Cost: Free

Lastly, I picked up Matte Bronzing Powder. Ever since I went to beauty college I have wanted this as   I always thought it was THE BEST! I obviously was very closed minded about make-up back then, recently I have been trying anything and everything! But, none the less I still wanted it. I already have Harmony in my collection but I needed something that was much darker that would be visible on the girls who liked to wear tan or had naturally dark skin. So far, it has been wonderful and you can notice it much more clearly when you use it on a dark toned client!
Cost: 23

Well, there you have it! I know it was only a small haul but, little by little as they say. I have many more hauls for you coming up this week so keep them peepers peeled!
Love,
S
